The Thunder Bay Catch The Ace in Support of the Our Hearts at Home Campaign

The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation’s Our Hearts at Home Campaign has been the driving fundraising force behind the effort to bring Cardiovascular Surgery to Northwestern Ontario. This effort has just hit a major milestone, with the Ontario Government’s commitment of over $93 million to fund the construction of a new Cardiovascular Surgery Unit at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, a long-awaited step toward providing life-saving cardiac care closer to home. However, our work isn’t finished yet.

As we enter the public phase of the Our Hearts at Home Campaign, we’re excited to officially launch the Thunder Bay Catch The Ace, building on the incredible success of the popular Thunder Bay 50/50 lottery. All proceeds raised through the Thunder Bay Catch The Ace will directly support the Our Hearts at Home Campaign. Together, we are realizing our vision of healing Our Hearts at Home.

Every ticket purchased helps provide the resources cardiac surgeons need to perform cutting-edge procedures, reduce wait times, and save lives. With construction beginning in early 2025 and completion expected by late 2027, Northwestern Ontario will soon have its first comprehensive cardiovascular surgery program. This 76,000-square-foot expansion will include:

✅ 14 new cardiovascular surgery inpatient beds
✅ 6 coronary care unit beds
✅ A state-of-the-art surgical suite with C-arm imaging
✅ An expanded ambulatory care and pre-admission clinic
✅ A new vascular lab
✅ Enhanced medical device reprocessing and biomedical department

100% of proceeds raised by the Thunder Bay Catch The Ace will support the Our Hearts at Home Campaign.

These advancements mean that patients who once had to travel over 10 hours to Toronto for cardiac surgery will now receive world-class care right here in Thunder Bay. This is a game-changer for our region.
